Seconds afterwards, the fan came back without the beverage in her hand this time, and Khabib graciously obliged to have his photo taken. Why Khabib's Faith Influenced His Decision Khabib Nurmagomedov is a religious Muslim, and his unwillingness to participate in anything that might promote alcohol is based on Islamic teachings. The Quran prohibits the use and promotion of intoxicants, as found in verses such as: "O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling. are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful." - Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:90 Due to these values, Khabib avoids engaging in photos or environments that involve alcohol, in deference to his religious beliefs.
