NFL Team: Arizona Cardinals – Facts Regarding Television and Radio Broadcasting Rights

4 Min Read

The most valuable and expensive television rights for any American sport are those for National Football League (NFL) games. After World War II, professional football became widely known because of television. Since that time, National Football League broadcasts have risen to the top of American television’s most-watched list, and controlling the broadcasting rights to the NFL has been crucial to the financial success of whole networks. Moreover, Radio has been a crucial tool for enhancing sports accessibility, but in order to truly serve as a catalyst for social inclusion and active engagement, it must make sure that voices from those who are marginalised are heard and that various viewpoints are given a chance to be heard.

The primary radio station for the Cardinals is KMVP-FM, which is overseen by Dave Pasch, Ron Wolfley, and Paul Calvisi. According to a 2015 agreement with Univisión, Spanish-language radio broadcasts can be heard on the combination of KQMR/KHOV-“Latino FM’s Mix.” They were broadcast on co-owned KBMB AM 710 and KDVA/KVVA-FM “José FM ” prior to 2015. In 2000, the Cardinals became the first NFL team to broadcast all 20 of their games on Spanish-language radio. The Cardinals have the largest Mexican affiliate network in the NFL via agreements with Grupo Larsa and Grupo Radiorama, as well as stations in 20 locations, including Hermosillo, Guadalajara, and Mexico City.

Since the 2017 campaign, the team’s preseason games have been televised by NBC affiliate KPNX, with station anchor Paul Gerke serving as the side-line reporter. Pasch and Wolfley call the games, which this year also included the Hall of Fame Game broadcast by NBC. Regionally, the broadcasts are syndicated to Tucson’s KTTU and KMSB-TV as well as Las Vegas’ KVVU-TV.
