Nick Kyrgios Withdraws from US Open Due to Wrist Injury

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has made the tough decision to withdraw from the upcoming US Open due to a wrist injury. Despite being a quarterfinalist at Flushing Meadows last year, Kyrgios will not be able to participate in this year’s tournament, marking his absence from a fourth consecutive Grand Slam event.

The announcement was made by the US Open through X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing hopes for Kyrgios’ swift recovery and return to the tennis court. Kyrgios, who has been dealing with injuries throughout the year, had only participated in one event, Stuttgart, due to various health issues.

His injury challenges began earlier in the season with a knee surgery in January, followed by a foot problem that prevented him from competing at the French Open in May. A torn ligament in his wrist further led to his absence from Wimbledon.

In a heartfelt message on his Instagram story, Kyrgios expressed his disappointment about missing the US Open. He reminded everyone of his protected ranking of 21 and assured his fans that he would return to the court when his wrist is fully healed.

Despite his injury-plagued season, Kyrgios had a remarkable 2022, reaching the Wimbledon final and winning the ATP 500 event in Washington D.C. He also achieved a significant victory at the 2022 Australian Open doubles competition alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Last year in New York, Kyrgios achieved a notable victory by defeating defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round. While Kyrgios will be absent from the US Open, Argentine players Diego Schwartzman and Facundo Diaz Acosta have secured their spots in the men’s singles main draw.

Kyrgios’ decision to prioritize his health underscores the challenges athletes face and the importance of well-being in their competitive journey.
