India has marked its dominant presence in the Asia Cup after clinching a win against Pakistan. As per the tournament’s fixture, India just needs a win over Hong Kong to reach the top 4. Hardik Pandya played an important role for the team in the clash against Pakistan. However, a former cricketer has opined that Pandya shouldn’t participate in the match against Hong Kong.
Pandya impressed everyone with his performance on Sunday against Pakistan. He clinched three important wickets in his four-over spell in the first innings. And then moved on to score 33 runs, vital for India’s win in the thriller of a game. Considering his form, many believe that it’ll be a no-brainer to drop him off the team in any of the upcoming matches. However, Ajay Jadeja likes to contradict the fact.
“I don’t see Hardik Pandya bowling against Hong Kong. So there’s no point in making him play if he is not going to bowl. We know what he can do with the bat and is high on confidence. He is fielding well and bowling well. So, if he isn’t playing, then Deepak Hooda could come in,” said Jadeja talking about India’s upcoming match.
Hong Kong has stepped into the tournament after defeating UAE, Kuwait, and Singapore in the qualifiers. However, the team as perceived doesn’t pose much danger to its group mates, the formidable India and Pakistan. And thus, Ajay Jadeja believes that others on the bench should be given a chance for a match as such. India’s bench strength for the Asia Cup is considerably strong with players like Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, and more.
