The fourth day of the fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad saw star Indian batsman Virat Kohli reach three figures after 1205 days without a Test century. As the match ended in a draw, Kohli was named “Player of the Match” after smashing a 186-run innings. Following New Zealand’s victory over Sri Lanka in the opening Test match at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Monday, India won the series 2-1 and also advanced to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
There were some concerns about Kohli’s position on the team during his slump with the bat.
After the game, Kohli discussed his performance and admitted that he had been trying to “justify” his inclusion in the team.
“To be completely honest, I place more importance on the goals I have for myself as a player. From the first innings at Nagpur, I thought I was batting well. We gave long attention to batting. I did that to a degree, but not as effectively as I had in the past. Was a little disappointed for that. I felt relief in knowing that I could play however I pleased. I felt good about my defence. I’m not in a position right now where I can go out and disprove someone. I must also explain why I am on the field “During the presentation ceremony, Kohli said.
Speaking about his 163-run partnership with Axar Patel, Kohli explained that the two chose to take their time in the middle because Shreyas Iyer’s injury left them without a batsman.
“We made the decision to play positively when I was 60 not out. But due to an injury, we were without a batter and lost Shreyas. So we made the decision to play. They placed some excellent fields and had good ball control. We took a slight advantage and gave ourselves a chance “Added he.
