NSC vs WF: Zak Crawley Guides Northern Superchargers To Dominant Win Over Welsh Fire

3 Min Read

In the NSC vs WF Headingley showdown, Zak Crawley produced an incredible unbeaten 67 to lead Northern Superchargers to an eight-wicket triumph over Welsh Fire.

His 37-ball innings with five boundaries and four monster sixes guaranteed consecutive home victories for the Superchargers in their first day of The Hundred after the women’s team won in the morning. Crawley was accompanied by skipper Harry Brook to the finish, with Brook scoring the winning runs to the joy of the Leeds fans.

Bairstow-Smith Start Fizzles Out

The game was started by Welsh Fire’s Jonny Bairstow and Steve Smith with a subdued early crowd booing being silenced by the pair as they assembled a smooth 62-run partnership.

Their momentum was, however, brought to an end with Smith being bowled by Matthew Potts, which led to the middle-order collapse. Even Bairstow’s best efforts, the Fire could manage only 143 for 9 from their allotted 100 balls, a score that ultimately proved to be short.

Superchargers’ Clinical Chase

Pursuing 144, the Northern Superchargers were never behind. Crawley and Dawid Malan (41) had a well-settled partnership, hitting in various regions to destroy the Fire’s bowling line-up. Upon joining Brook, he made a clear statement by hitting his first ball over mid-off for six, winning the match with 11 balls remaining.

Post-Match Reactions

Speaking following the NSC vs WF win, Crawley was complimentary about the team:

“I loved it. The boys are great, and coming here with Freddie [Flintoff], the guy’s a legend. It’s a great place to play cricket and an awesome wicket to bat on. We kept them to a chaseable total and executed our game plan perfectly.”

Crawley also emphasized the bowlers’ pivotal role in picking up wickets at regular intervals, keeping Welsh Fire from capitalizing on their brilliant start.
