NXT Women’s North American Championship, the first secondary women’s title in WWE history
The NXT Women’s North American Championship is a professional wrestling championship created and promoted by WWE. The title is primarily defended in WWE’s developmental brand NXT. The championship was announced by NXT General Manager Ava at NXT Stand & Deliver on April 6, 2024.
History of NXT Women’s North American Championship
For the first time in WWE history, a secondary championship has been introduced for the women’s division. The company had a long-term plan behind introducing this title, and the NXT brand became the first brand to put this plan into action.
This championship has been created as a counterpart to the men’s NXT North American Championship. Talking about its design, it is very similar to the men’s title, but it has a white strap and red background. The belt’s title plate reads “Women’s” above “North American”, distinguishing it from the men’s championship.
Process of winning the first championship
NXT General Manager Ava selected 12 women superstars for this title, out of which the top 6 wrestlers were included in the final match. To win this championship, a six-woman ladder match was held at NXT Battleground 2024, in which all the superstars fought hard for the title.
Current NXT Women’s North American Champion
Kelani Jordan is currently the NXT Women’s North American Champion. She won this title by defeating Sol Ruca, Lash Legend, Fallon Henley, Jaida Parker and Michin in a historic six-woman ladder match at NXT Battleground 2024. This is her first championship win, and she is still successfully holding this title.
The NXT Women’s North American Championship brings new possibilities to the women’s division and provides a platform for new and exciting matches for the audience. In the years to come, the legacy of this title will be strengthened and new superstars will get an opportunity to move forward.
