It doesn’t get much more convincing. Devon Conway’s transition to international cricket progressed with a maiden century on the ground and Daryl Mitchell made a late surge to his first ODI century before Bangladesh’s batting did nothing to offer much as they went down a series clean sweep in the third ODI that took place in Wellington.
When New Zealand was 57 on 3, the visitors had a foothold but they couldn’t hold it together for long as Conway led the recovery which was capped off by Mitchell. The players added 159 in 24 overs for the fifth wicket, while New Zealand as a whole got 107 off the last ten.
Matt Henry replied by knocking off the Bangladesh top order, as a brilliant catch by Trent Boult was made, and the rest of the batting continued except Mahmudullah, as James Neesham took under his name a haul by claiming the last two wickets.
Mitchell’s century needed a sprint off the final ball and he should have been run out but Mushafiqur Rahim fumbled the return. The early progress had been steady before Henry Nicholas was given a life when Rahim couldn’t hold an edge, but later after throwing two balls, the left-hander nicked to slip where Das held on to the relief of the often-luckless Taskin Ahmed.
Later on, the excitement level could be seen going down as Bangladesh opted for a largely defensive approach against some testing bowling, having a particular challenge against the bounce of Kyle Jamieson. Madmullah fought a 64 ball half-century and brought some aggression in the game at the end of the match.
