Odegaard has stated that making friends at Real Madrid is not easy at all. The Norwegian joined the club in 2015 as a 17-year-old. However, he did not have a consistent time at the club as he loaned out to Eredivise and had a season-long loan at Real Sociedad and a half of last season in the Premier League at Arsenal. He joined Arsenal at the start of this campaign from Madrid permanently.
Meanwhile, talking to a Norwegian TV the Arsenal star said there were difficult moments when he was in Madrid. He said it was tough both in the first team and in the Castilla. But he added that being close to the best only made him better.
He said,
“I feel that I have grown thanks to Madrid and I have learned from players like Ramos and Cristiano.”
Odegaard on Madrid dressing room
Odegaard opened up about his relationship with the players at the club. He said that it is not easy to make friends at the highest level. He said he could not adapt to the dressing room culture of Real. As a result, the player says that he closed himself from everyone around as he found it difficult in the dressing room.
Meanwhile, he feels that there was a lack of support in Madrid.
“It all depends on yourself, but it is always important to feel loved and see that a club counts on you.”
However, the player says his departure was not all down to the lack of minutes. He says,
“Anyone who is part of football knows that this is not the case. No matter what level you play, no one is guaranteed to always play. You must earn trust and deserve it.”
