Oklahoma City Thunder Clinches First NBA Title Since 1979

In a historic moment in NBA history, the Oklahoma City Thunder secured their second overall and first since the 1979 NBA title on 22 June 2025. This historic victory ended a 46-year drought since their first championship win when the team was still based in Seattle as the SuperSonics. This victory marks the Thunder’s first NBA title since relocating to Oklahoma City in 2008.

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers in a thrilling showdown that took place at the Thunder’s home court on 22 June 2025. The rivalry between them was legendary as it led to the only 20th Game 7 in NBA history.

They were the title favourites since the beginning of the NBA Finals Series. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge for the Oklahoma City Thunder as they delivered a dominant performance in Game 7 and also earned the Finals MVP award.

A Historic Win

The 2024-25 season was exceptional for the Oklahoma City Thunder as they finished with a franchise-record 68-14 regular-season record and also led the league’s best point differential at +12.9, surpassing even the legendary 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers’ mark.
