Paralympics 2020: India’s Sakina Khatun finishes 5th in Powerlifting

The Paralympics 2020 tournament is underway. It began on 24th August 2021 and will continue till 5th September. It is to be noted that Indian Contingent has a great number of participants this year. 54 players across different sporting events will be representing India. With that, India’s Sakina Khatun has finished at 5th position in the women’s 50kg Powerlifting final.

Khatun previously won a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games. 

At the Paralympics tournament, she was able to lift 90kgs in her first attempt. Unfortunately, she could not do more than that. Sakina got off well with the 90kgs lifting. Unfortunately, Sakina Khatun misses out on a medal. But, a great effort!

She was then asked to lift 93 kgs which she could not. Then, in round 2 she went on to lift the same 90kgs and hence finished at 5th spot.

Chinese Powerlifter Hu Dandan won the gold medal for lifting 120kgs, Egypt’s Rehab Ahmed gets the silver. Olivia Broome of Great Britain won the bronze.

Later that day, Jaideep Kumar will take part in the men’s 65kg powerlifting sport.

This time it’s interesting to see so many players representing India at the Paralympics 2020. Watching them play for the nation is a delight and the viewers are already so proud!
