Paris Marathon 2025: Benard Biwott, Bedatu Hirpa Lead The Charts

Kenya’s Benard Biwott won the men’s elite race at the Paris Marathon 2025on Sunday (13 April) while Bedatu Hirpa of Ethiopia clinched victory at the women’s event.

Biwott, who won on his marathon debut in Frankfurt last October, took the lead in a group of nine runners with around 10km to go in the 42.195km contest. The 22-year-old crossed the finish line in 2:05:25, 29 seconds better than his time from Frankfurt.

Ibrahim Hassan of Djibouti came second in 2:06:13 with another Kenyan, Sila Kiptoo, who took the third position eight seconds behind.

In the women’s competiton, Hirpa outsprinted Dera Dida produced a one-two for Ethiopia in a repeat of January’s Dubai Marathon.

The duo came clear of Kenya’s Angela Tanui and Tanzania’s Magdalena Shauri inside the last 5km.

Hirpa took the victory clocking 2:20:45, while Dida crossed the line four seconds later with Tanui third in 2:21:07.

The handisport race was an intense battle between Julien Casoli and Thibaut Daurat. In the sprint, the experienced Casoli won in 1 h 33 min 03 s, just ahead of Daurat(1 h 33 min 04 s). Colombian Francisco Sanclemente rounded off the podium finishing in 1 h 36 min 47 s, concluding a hotly contested international podium.

This year, 56,950 runners descended down the 42.195 km course which is grueling. Participants set off from the Champs-Élysées with an aim of crossing the finish line at Porte Dauphine, passing through such iconic landmarks as the Place de la Concorde, theOpéra Garnier and the Place de la Bastille.
