Hours before his last match, legendary Indian hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh shared an emotional farewell note for his fans and the sport that he loved the most. He described his international career as ‘nothing short of extraordinary’ and expressed his gratitude to the fans, who believed in him.
PR Sreejesh Shared An Emotional Message Ahead Of His Last Match
The legendary player from Kerala will be looking forward to ending his glorious 18-year-long career with a medal when he steps onto the field for one last time along with his teammates in the bronze playoff against Spain in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.
The veteran keeper, PR Sreejesh has been in some stellar form as he has produced some sensational performances in the tournament, including two in the quarterfinal shoot-out against Great Britain, to help the Indian side seal a semifinal spot for the second consecutive time.
PR Sreejesh had played a crucial role in India’s bronze-medal-winning milestone at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. Sreejesh took to his social media and penned a heartfelt note that read:
“As I stand between the posts for the final time, my heart swells with gratitude and pride. This journey, from a young boy with a dream to the man defending India’s honour, has been nothing short of extraordinary.”
He added: “Today, I play my last match for India. Every save, every dive, every roar of the crowd will forever echo in my soul. Thank you, India, for believing in me, for standing by me. This is not the end, but the beginning of cherished memories. Forever a custodian of dreams. Jai Hind 🇮🇳”

PR Sreejesh, who made his debut at the 2006 South Asian Games, was a part of several memorable wins for India, including a gold in the 2014 Asian Games and a bronze medal in the 2018 Asiad in Jakarta-Palembang.
Sreejesh was also a part of the Asian Champions Trophy-winning side in 2018, and the 2019 FIH Men’s Series Finals champion team in Bhubaneshwar
The Indian hockey team-led by Harmanpreet Singh will face off against Spain in the Bronze Medal match today, and they have an opportunity to enhance India’s medal tally to four.
