Pep Guardiola, who has had a difficult time as a coach this season, has said that  he will take a break from job after he leaves Manchester City. However, he did not specify as to when he will retire.

Guardiola will be at the Etihad until June 2027 after he signed a two-year contract extension in November last year.

By that time the Spaniard will have been at City for 11 years.  He spent four years as Barcelona manager before taking charge of Bayern Munich for three.

“After my contract with City, I’m going to stop. I’m sure,” Guardiola told ESPN.

“I don’t know if I’m going to retire, but I’m going to take a break.”

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, Guardiola clarified that he won’t necessarily leave City at the end of his current contract.

“I didn’t say I was leaving now or at the end of the season. If they sack me, then yes!

“I didn’t say I’m leaving now or at the end of season or the end of contract,” he said.

“I said when I finish my time here, be it one, two, three, four, five years, I will take a break.”

“I won’t retire but I will take a break. What I am saying is when I am finished here I will take a break”.

Pep Guardiola has overseen the most glorius period in City’s history, with his side winning six of the past nine Premier League titles as well as the club’s first Champions League as part of a Treble in 2022-23.

However, Manchester City have failed to show their dominance this season and are currently fourth in the table with four games left to play.

“How I want to be remembered, I don’t know,” Guardiola said. “I want people to remember me however they want.”

“All coaches want to win so we can have a memorable job, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City had fun watching my teams play.”

“I don’t think we should ever live thinking about whether we’re going to be remembered.”

“When we die, our families cry for two or three days and then that’s it – you’re forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer.”

City’s Champions League qualification in in limbo, as they are locked in a battle with Newcastle United, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa for a top-five finish.

But City still have a chance of silverware as they face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 17, and Guardiola is sure everyone at the club will learn from an underwhelming campaign.

“It was a year of great learning. There is not just one reason why this year was difficult, there are many details, like wrong decisions made for me. So, it has been a year of great learning for me, personally,” Guardiola said.

“I knew there would be a moment when we would fall, but we fell a lot. We didn’t expect to be so far off, but we can’t win them all.

“What we did during 10, nine years was exceptional, but now we have to sit down and learn to try to understand what we need to produce in the future.”

He added: “Do you know what a two-year contract for a manager in football means? It’s an eternity, so what I’m saying is that when I’m finished here, I will take a break.

“I will need to make a stop, that’s all.”
