Players That DC Would Release Before IPL 2027: Unfortunately, Delhi Capitals faced a lot of troubles in this season and are expected to amend some changes before the IPL 2027.

With only seven wins from 14 games, they have been under a great scrutiny for rearranging their squad and according to rumors the leadership role is also being planned to be restructured.

5 Players That DC Would Release Before IPL 2027

1. Ben Duckett

Ben Duckett is definitely the top contender for being released from the squad. DC bought this English batter for INR 2 crores for the IPL 2026 season.

However, before IPL 2026 got started, Duckett decided to quit IPL and gave preference to concentrating on his county cricket and Test appearances for England.

As per the IPL norms, players who drop out after the auction will be banned for a period of two years. This means that Duckett cannot be in IPL 2027 and IPL 2028 either. DC had already brought in leg spinner Rehan Ahmed to replace Duckett in this season.

2. Karun Nair

Karun Nair, joined back with Delhi Capitals for Rs. 50 lakh in the year 2025 and appeared to have make a comeback which also led him a place in Indian Test Team during England tour.

Nair dragged attention when he scored 89 runs from just 40 balls against the Mumbai Indians in his first IPL match since 2022. But it seemed to be just a single exceptional performance.

After that, Nair struggled to bring back his form. He scored a mere 18 runs in two matches of IPL 2026 with a striking rate of just 100.

There are plenty of choices available for the Delhi Capitals in the opening batting lineup, which includes Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, and Abhishek Porel.

3. Pathum Nissanka

Delhi Capitals picked up Pathum Nissanka from Sri Lanka with great hope due to his great performances in the international cricket matches playing for the Sri Lanka.

He was signed in INR 4 crore by Delhi Capitals with high hopes of strengthening the top order. Even though he managed to score two half-centuries in the IPL 2026, but he was expected to bring in more consistency from his end in the top order.

Nissanka made 278 runs in 10 games with an average of 28. However, with a decent strike rate of 158, Delhi may still let him go due to several competitors for openers.

4. Vipraj Nigam

Vipraj Nigam, the leg-spinner, gave some satisfactory performances in the early games for Delhi Capitals after his signing at a price of Rs. 50 lakhs.

Not only did he receive praise as a bowler, but he also grabbed attention as a batsman, which was shown by his performance in a more than 200 runs chase game played by DC against Lucknow Super Giants.

But he had a difficult start to IPL 2026. He has taken 2 Wickets at an economy rate of 12.55 in the 1st 5 Matches of the Season. Since Delhi has Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Rehan Ahmed, they could release him before the Next Auction.
