An Incident happened in CWC Challenge League involving a PNG cricketer during an International tournament. Renowned PNG player Kipling Doriga has been officially charged with robbery after an incident that took place early in the morning on Monday, 25th August 2025, in St Heliers the capital of Jersey, a Crown Dependency of the UK. Doriga was in Jersey playing for Papua New Guinea during the current CWC Challenge League tournament.

Background: Seasoned PNG Cricketer in Internationals

The 29-year-old wicket-keeper batter has also been a regular representative of the Papua New Guinea national side, having so far played 97 international matches.

The player has previously represented PNG on the world stage at major events such as the 2021 ICC T20World Cup, and 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

Court Proceedings and Guilty Plea

Doriga was presented in front of the Jersey Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. At the hearing, he is said to have pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery.

Considering the gravity of the offense, Relief Magistrate Rebecca Morley-Kirk found that the case exceeded the jurisdiction of the Magistrate’s Court and sent it to the Royal Court.

Bail was refused, and Doriga will be held in Jersey jail until his next court hearing on 28th November 2025.

This action puts a cloud over Papua New Guinea’s involvement in the CWC Challenge League, as they proceed with their run without one of their most seasoned players.

Impact on PNG Cricket and the CWC Challenge League

This is at a vital time during the second round of the CWC Challenge League, a significant qualification route for associate cricket countries. Doriga’s absence could affect the team’s performance and morale in the current competition.
