Porto president Pinto da Costa affirmed they dismissed a challenge to join a breakaway European Super League as they “can’t take part in whatever is contrary to the standards and rules of the EU and UEFA”.
Reports from the previous evening asserted Porto could be one of the extra three Founding Clubs which are yet to be declared.
“There were casual contacts from certain clubs, yet we didn’t give a lot of consideration for two reasons. The first is that the European Union doesn’t permit a closed circuit of occasions like in the NBA, for instance.
“As the Portuguese Football Federation is against this, and as a member of UEFA, we can’t partake in whatever is contrary to the standards and rules of the European Union and UEFA.
“In the event that that goes ahead, something that I have a ton of questions about, UEFA won’t end and it is sure that they will keep on existing. It should be perceived that the events coordinated by UEFA are the real events.
“We are not worried about being in European Super League or not, we are in the Champions League and we desire to keep on being here for a long time.”
