The Prefontaine Classic, the 9th stop in the Wanda Diamond League Series, held on 5 July 2025 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon (USA). It was the 50th edition of the event in which world-class athletics proved their prowess.
Two world records tumbled out of the meet at Prefontaine Classic 2025.
Double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet produced another stunning distance performance, shattering the world record in the women’s 5000m at the Prefontaine Classic.
The Kenyan superstar became the first woman to break 14 minutes for the distance on the track, leaving previous record-holder Gudaf Tsegay in her wake as she stormed home in 13:58.06. That was just over two seconds inside Tsegay’s 14:00.21 set on the same Hayward Field track at the 2023 Diamond League Final.
Faith Kipyegon returned to record-breaking ways at the Eugene Diamond League. The Kenyan ran the last 400m in 59.1 as she took victory in 3:48.68, 0.36 inside her mark from last July’s Paris Diamond League.
This is the third time Kipyegon has set a new world record over 1500m, having first broken it in Florence in 2023.
Tara Davis-Woodhall won the long jump with a distance of 7.07M in her last attempt at Prefontaine Classic 2025.
Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone won the 400M and was less than one second off the world lead. Winfred Yavi took the world lead and set a new meet record in the 3000M Steeplechase, defeating Faith Cherotich.
