Maharashtra batter Prithvi Shaw kicked off his new journey in style, smashing a brilliant hundred in the Ranji Trophy warm-up match against his former team, Mumbai. The 25-year-old reached his century off 140 balls while sharing a massive 300-plus run stand with opener Arshin Kulkarni.

Impressive First-Class Record

So far, Prithvi Shaw has featured in 58 first-class matches and scored 4,456 runs. His record includes 13 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with a best score of 379, which came during the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy season.

Prithvi Shaw made his first-class debut for Mumbai back on January 1, 2017, against Tamil Nadu in Rajkot. Just 17 at the time, Shaw made an instant impact by scoring a superb hundred in the second innings after being dismissed for only 4 runs in the first.

Moving from Mumbai to Maharashtra

After being overlooked several times last season, Prithvi Shaw decided to move from Mumbai to the Maharashtra state team for the upcoming domestic season. This marks his first-ever Ranji Trophy season representing a side other than Mumbai.

A Strong Start in the Warm-Up Match

Ahead of the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy, Prithvi Shaw made a strong statement in the warm-up game against his former teammates. On Day 1, he scored a stunning century, reaching the 100-run mark by taking a single off Mumbai’s new captain, Shardul Thakur.

Opening the innings with Arshin Kulkarni, Prithvi Shaw helped build a massive 305-run partnership for the first wicket. Kulkarni was in explosive form too, smashing 186 runs off just 140 balls before being dismissed by Shams Mulani. Trying to go for a big hit down the ground, Arshin was caught by Musheer Khan on the fourth ball of the 50th over.

At that point, Prithvi Shaw was batting on 116 off 159 balls and continued to add valuable runs for Maharashtra after his partner’s dismissal.

Maharashtra’s Ranji Trophy 2025–26 Fixtures

Maharashtra will begin its Ranji Trophy 2025–26 campaign on October 15 against Kerala. Their second Elite Group B match will be against Chandigarh from October 25 to 28.

Following these games, the team will take on Saurashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh in the remaining matches of their group stage.

A New Start for the Talented Opener

This season will be a fresh beginning for Prithvi Shaw, as he looks to make his mark for Maharashtra. The talented right-handed batter has already played five Test matches for India, making a memorable debut in 2018 against the West Indies, where he scored a hundred in his very first Test innings.
