In an extraordinary display, Prithvi Shaw showcased his cricket prowess by amassing a phenomenal 244 runs for Northamptonshire during a One-Day Cup match against Somerset at the County Ground. Despite breaking several List A records, India’s opening batsman remains unperturbed by the thoughts of the national selection committee and emphasizes his focus on enjoying the game.

Shaw’s monumental score of 244 was achieved in just 153 balls, featuring an impressive 28 fours and 11 sixes. This stellar performance contributed to Northamptonshire’s commanding total of 415-8, eventually leading to their victory by a significant 87-run margin. Notably, Shaw’s innings now ranks as the sixth-highest individual score in any List A match.

In his previous two appearances for Northamptonshire, Shaw had recorded scores of 34 and 26. However, during this match, he accelerated his performance, reaching his first century in just 81 deliveries before rapidly securing his second century in a mere 129 deliveries.

Expressing his perspective on the situation, Shaw shared, “Definitely an experience for sure. Not really thinking about what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, enjoy the company of fellow players and the support staff. Northamptonshire has provided me with this opportunity, and their exceptional support is greatly appreciated. I’m truly enjoying this phase.”

Shaw’s remarkable achievement places him among a select group of batsmen who have scored multiple double centuries in List A matches. This exclusive club includes India’s captain Rohit Sharma, Australia’s left-handed batter Travis Head, and Ali Brown as its previous members.

Having become the third player to achieve a List A double century in England, Shaw now holds the record for the highest-ever List A score by an overseas player in List A cricket. Furthermore, he becomes the first player to attain List A double hundreds in two different countries and for two distinct teams.

Reflecting on his record-breaking innings, Shaw humorously remarked, “The sun was out, and it felt like Indian weather today, so it was really ideal. When an inside edge doesn’t result in getting dismissed, it seems like the day is in my favor. Luck plays a part sometimes, and I believe this was my fortunate day. I never looked back after that point.”

Shaw’s previous List A double century was achieved in February 2021 when he notched an unbeaten 227 for Mumbai against Puducherry, setting a record for the highest score in the tournament at that time. During his exceptional performance in the recent match, Shaw formed a crucial partnership of 194 runs with Sam Whiteman (54) for Northamptonshire.

Commenting on his mindset during the innings, Shaw admitted, “The 227 was on my mind, to be honest. I discussed it with Whitey (Whiteman) while he was on the field, and I informed him about my highest score. Nonetheless, it was a collective team effort. I always strive to contribute to my team’s victories, and I prioritize the team’s success over my personal achievements. If playing in this manner can contribute to my team’s triumph, then I intend to continue along this path
