Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal said he believes Babar Azam will become an even bigger player than Virat Kohli once he gets back in form. Right now, Babar is going through a tough time in both international and local cricket. He’s currently playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 but has scored just one run in two matches, with an average of 0.50.

“When Babar Azam makes a comeback again, he will be a bigger player than any other player in the world, including Virat Kohli. He will be matched with names like Gary Sobers and Sir Viv Richards,” Iqbal said.

PSL 2025: A Nightmare Start for Babar and Zalmi

For the unversed, Babar Azam hasn’t scored a century since he made 151 runs against Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023 at Multan. After the ODI World Cup later that year, where Pakistan didn’t make it to the semifinals, Babar gave up captaincy in all formats.

He returned as captain in limited-overs cricket before the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. But after Pakistan failed to get past the group stage, he stepped down again. His batting style during the tournament was also criticized.

Babar Azam was also left out of Pakistan’s T20I squad for the five-match series against New Zealand. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag even said Babar doesn’t deserve a spot in the T20 team.

In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Babar’s team, Peshawar Zalmi, has lost both of their matches so far and is at the bottom of the points table with a poor net run rate of -4.550.
