PUBG Mobile is getting ready for its next big update. The PUBG Mobile 4.2 Update will arrive in the first week of January 2026 and will introduce a brand-new themed mode along with major weapon balance changes. These updates are designed to make fights more fair, more tactical, and more exciting for players.

Here is everything you need to know about the PUBG Mobile 4.2 Update.

PUBG Mobile 4.2 Update Release Date

Level Infinite has confirmed that the PUBG Mobile 4.1 themed mode will end on January 5, 2026. This means the PUBG Mobile 4.2 Update will officially launch on January 6, 2026.

The update will bring the new Primewood Genesis themed mode, fresh map changes, and important weapon adjustments that affect close-range and mid-range combat.

Primewood Genesis Themed Mode Explained

The Primewood Genesis mode introduces a world affected by the power of a mysterious Sacred Tree. Its energy has changed the environment, turning cities into dangerous zones filled with corrupted plants and strange life forms.

Players must explore these dangerous areas, destroy the source of corruption, and help restore balance to the land. Completing these tasks will reward players with useful supplies and loot.

New Map Area: Corrupted City

Several city locations on the map will look very different in this update. Buildings and streets are reshaped due to the Sacred Tree’s influence.

Players will notice thick fog that limits visibility, twisted vines blocking paths, and large roots sealing off certain areas. Some locations will remain locked until players clear the corruption. Once purified, the tree roots will disappear, allowing normal exploration.

Corruption Plant Zones

Special corruption zones will appear on the map. These areas contain dark energy that has formed dangerous plants.

Players must destroy all corrupt plants in these zones to help cleanse the area. Once cleared, the Sacred Tree will reward players with supplies, making these zones high-risk but high-reward locations.

PUBG Mobile 4.2 Weapon Balance Changes

Weapon balance is a major focus of the 4.2 Update.

Several assault rifles will receive a base damage boost. Weapons like the AKM, M762, ACE32, Honey Badger, and Mk47 will deal more damage, making them stronger choices in short and mid-range fights. The Groza will also get a small damage increase, keeping it as one of the strongest rifles in the game.

On the other hand, shotguns will be slightly weakened. Weapons such as the S686, S1897, S12K, DBS, M1014, and NS2000 will deal less base damage. Their bullet spread will also be less predictable, meaning players will need better aim and positioning in close combat.
