Puneri Paltan became the second team to seal a position in the PKL Season 12 top eight, following a dominating 36-23 victory over Tamil Thalaivas on Saturday at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium.

Puneri Paltan vs Tamil Thalaivas was an action-packed matchup characterised by clinical performance from the Paltan, with Pankaj Mohite and Aslam Inamdar at the forefront, ably assisted by a High Five from defender Gurdeep.

Early Lead and First ALL OUT Set the Tone

Puneri Paltan took to the court in the first half, getting an early lead with aggressive raiding by Aslam Inamdar, the captain. Only six minutes into the game, a successful tackle on Himanshu resulted in the first ALL OUT, and Tamil Thalaivas were caught on the back foot.

It took the Thalaivas another nine minutes to register their second and third points, showing the extent of Puneri’s early control.

Pankaj Mohite, Aslam Inamdar Dominate First Half

The raiding pair of Pankaj Mohite (9 points) and Aslam Inamdar (7 points) preyed on the Tamil Thalaivas’ defence for most of the first half. Meanwhile, Arjun Deshwal continued to keep the Thalaivas in the competition with an efficient carry out, but the same defensive unit began to fall apart as pressure builds from relentless attacking forces.

A turning point was achieved when Pankaj Mohite’s two-point raid, which resulted in the deaths of Ronak and Aashish, opened up a gap and disrupted the rhythm of the Thalaivas. Puneri Paltan were 20-11 ahead at halftime, creating a comfortable buffer.

Thalaivas Try Fightback, but Paltan Remain Calm

The third quarter saw the Tamil Thalaivas getting into a nice groove to defend. Ronak and Nitesh Kumar tackled well, and the Super Tackle from Pankaj inspired a comeback.

But Puneri Paltan retorted with poise. Pankaj came back to send Arulnanthababu packing soon after and Aslam Inamdar’s calm leadership ensured the Paltan didn’t commit hara-kiri. Paltan maintained a comfortable 25–16 lead by the halfway point in the second half.

The last quarter was marked by the Thalaivas’ corner pair Nitesh Kumar and Arulnanthababu battling gallantly. A Super Tackle on Mohit Goyat at the right time reflected the team’s tenacity. But Puneri Paltan’s depth was too deep to withstand.

Aslam and Pankaj kept rotating raids intelligently, while Vishal Bhardwaj and Gurdeep were solid in defence. Gurdeep’s High Five contributed to the Paltan’s defensive superiority.

The last nail on the coffin was driven in when Aslam Inamdar’s raid destroyed both Nitesh and Arulnanthababu, delivering a decisive second ALL OUT and squashing any possibility of a Thalaivas comeback.

Final Score: Puneri Paltan 36 – 23 Tamil Thalaivas

It was a great match which ended with Puneri Paltan triumphing by 13 and guaranteeing their place in the top eight of Season 12 PKL. Tamil Thalaivas had moments of high skill but couldn’t maintain performance across the board.
