Amid Team India’s preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, star batsman Shubman Gill and young fast bowler Arshdeep Singh had a special meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. During this, both the players were wished good luck for the tournament and their performance was appreciated.
This meeting was not only aimed at supporting India’s preparations but also highlighted the important roles of Gill and Arshdeep. The Indian team will enter this prestigious tournament to be held in Pakistan from 19 February to 9 March to win the title.
Gill and Arshdeep had arrived with their families in this meeting. During this, Shubman Gill was seen with his father Lakhwinder Singh, while Arshdeep Singh met the Chief Minister with his parents Darshan Singh and Baljeet Kaur. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann encouraged both the players and congratulated them for their excellent performance.
Gill and Arshdeep are being considered the new identity of Punjab cricket. This meeting not only honored his personal career but also showed that the state was proud of him.
After this meeting, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote on his official social media handle, “Today, the proud players who have made the country and Punjab proud, Indian cricket team vice-captain Shubman Gill and fast bowler Arshdeep Singh came to meet with their families. It was great to meet them. Best wishes to both the players for Champion Trophy 2025. The whole of Punjab is proud of you.”
Shubman Gill, who made his ODI debut in 2019, has been performing consistently well in this format. In the 50 ODIs played so far, Gill has scored 2,587 runs at an impressive average of 60.16 and a strike rate of 101.93. He has 7 centuries and 15 half-centuries to his name, including a brilliant innings of 208 runs.
At the same time, Arshdeep Singh entered ODI cricket relatively late but has been successful in leaving his mark. He has taken 14 wickets in 9 ODIs at an average of 23.00, with his best performance being 5/37. His economy has been 5.17, which is considered economical in terms of ODI format. Recently in the T20 series against England, he also took 4 wickets in 3 matches at an economy of 7.89.
In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian team will have to face strong teams like Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand in the group stage. India will play its first match against Bangladesh on 20 February in Dubai.
Young stars like Gill and Arshdeep will be very important for the Indian team. While Gill will provide stability in the top order, Arshdeep can create problems for the batsmen with his swing and accurate yorker. Now it will be interesting to see how important a role these two players play in helping India win the title in the Champions Trophy.
