How did the Wimbledon 2024 final unfold?
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic by 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to retain his men’s singles title at Wimbledon 2024. It was a repeat of last year’s final clash as the youngster won the match on Center court in a match, that lasted for two hours and 27 minutes in front of a packed stadium.
The first set turned out to be a nail-biting thriller as it went for about 14 minutes, where Alcaraz saved five break points and then he started dominating. Djokovic did try to come back but Alcaraz continued his dominant run in the game. He won the set in 41 minutes with an extra break of serve.
During the second set, Carlos once again dominated the game and pressurized Djokovic. He got a double break and gave Djokovic a tough time. The Spaniard broke Djokovic’s serve four times in the first two sets.
Both of the main players engaged in a fierce battle during the third set. Alcaraz took the lead at 4-4 when he broke Djokovic’s serve with a backhand winner, moving ahead 5-4 and nearing the win. This put Alcaraz ahead 5-4 and closer to victory. However, the match took a dramatic turn as Alcaraz, despite being 40-0 up in the game, missed three match points, allowing Djokovic to break back.
Yet, Alcaraz didn’t lose his composure as he made a comeback and ultimately clinched the match in the tiebreaker. Djokovic’s final return hit the net, bringing the contest to a close.
