Rajasthan Royals (RR) are out of the IPL 2025 playoff race after a big 100-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. This was their 8th loss in 11 games, and even if they win their last three matches, they can only reach 12 points.
Rajasthan Royals Knocked Out of IPL 2025 Playoff Race
That won’t be enough, as three teams – Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians – already have more than 12 points. Two other teams, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals, are also on 12 and still have a match against each other, meaning at least one of them will pass that mark. So, RR can finish no higher than fifth.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) are now the second team to be knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoffs, just like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who were eliminated after losing to Punjab Kings (PBKS) the day before.
Mumbai Indians Jump to Top of the Table After Sixth Straight Win
Mumbai Indians (MI) set up the win with a powerful batting performance. Ryan Rickelton scored 61, Rohit Sharma made 53, and both Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya added 48 runs each, helping MI post a huge total of 217/2.
Their bowlers backed it up with a strong performance in the second innings. Trent Boult and Karn Sharma took three wickets each, Jasprit Bumrah picked up two, and Hardik Pandya and Deepak Chahar grabbed one each.
With this dominant win, MI moved to the top of the points table with 14 points from 11 games. This is a big turnaround, as they had lost four of their first five matches. Their net run rate is also very strong at +1.274.
Now, MI need just one more win from their remaining three games to almost confirm a playoff spot. With six wins in a row, the five-time champions will be aiming to win all three remaining games to reach 20 points and boost their chances of finishing in the top two.
