The current head coach of the team Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and finally the batting coach Vikram Rathour are set to part ways from the Indian team after the Marquee Tournament T20I World Cup is over. The T20I World Cup will be hosted in UAE in October- November. The World Cup which should have been hosted by India last year is postponed for a year and is also shifted to UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The news has come about saying that Ravi Shastri has informed some cricket board members that he is planning to move away from the National team after the marquee tournament is over. As his contract of being a coach for the Indian cricket team also ends during the same time. It seemed like some of the other staff members who were along with Ravi Shastri are already in talks with the IPL teams. It also looks like the BCCI wants a new group onboard.

Ravi Shastri took the role of director from the year 2014 till the T20I World Cup in 2016. Then, former cricketer, Anil Kumble took the role of a director for a year. Ravi Shastri was made the full-time coach in the year in the year 2017 after India’s defeat in the Champions Trophy final. Under his tenure as a coach, India won two away test series in Australia and also reached the finals of the first World Test Championship. They made would have lost to New Zealand in the finals, till then marvelous performance to reach to the finals.

Bharat Arun who was the bowling coach of India gave a major contribution to making India’s bowling one of the most feared in the world. The fielding standards of India have improved tremendously due to the contribution of the fielding R Sridhar.

But despite all their efforts it was heartening to see that India could not win one ICC title during their tenure. They lost in the semi-final in the 50- overs World Cup in 2019 and the finals of the World Test Championship. Despite these failures, we should never forget it was during their tenure India had tremendous success. India whitewashed West Indies and Sri Lanka in Test Series. And they put a phenomenal performance in South Africa and England.

Especially at home, they looked invincible defeating top-cricketing nations namely Australia, England, and South Africa It was During their tenure, India won a Test series in Australia in 2020, despite losing many of their key players due to injuries and playing within an inexperienced team.

Ravi Shastri played a vital role in building a strong character in the Indian team along with resilience within the team. He had a very good relationship with captain Kohli and also played a role in grooming the youngsters. A good example of it is a player like Rishabh Pant.

According to the protocol, the board will invite applicants for the coaching positions after the T20I World Cup. Some officials have already in favor of Rahul Dravid. The former cricketer was the NCA chief and also the coach of India- ‘A’ and U-19 sides. When he temporarily took the role of head coach, under his tenure, the team with most of the youngsters performed impressively against Sri Lanka.

Rahul Dravid also has experience working with most of the current team senor members and most of them being part of the India-A team. He was asked how was the experience of head coach on a tour of Sri Lanka he replied “I have enjoyed the experience of working with these guys, it has been great. I have not given any other taught to anything else. There are a lot of challenges in doing a full-time role, so I don’t know”,

The coincidence is that Rahul Dravid’s contract with NCA ends in September.
