Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni hit a stunning one-handed six off Punjab Kings (PBKS) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal during the 49th match of IPL 2025 on Wednesday, April 30. The match between CSK and PBKS took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer knew MS Dhoni had a tough time facing Yuzvendra Chahal, so he held back the experienced leg-spinner for the final overs.
When Dhoni came out to bat, Iyer brought Chahal into the attack in the 19th over. Chahal began with a wide, then bowled a full delivery on off-stump. Dhoni stepped down the pitch and smashed a one-handed six over long-on.
The moment became even more entertaining when the ball landed near the CSK dugout, and Ravindra Jadeja casually caught it. He jokingly celebrated the catch, bringing laughter and cheers from players and fans alike.
Chahal made a strong comeback by dismissing MS Dhoni on the very next ball. This was the fourth time Chahal has gotten Dhoni out in the IPL, doing so in 82 balls faced.
Ravindra Jadeja didn’t do well with the bat. Jadeja came in to bat at number 4 again but couldn’t make a big impact. He was dismissed after scoring 17 runs off 12 balls.

Before the match, during a chat on ESPNCricinfo, Ambati Rayudu shared his thoughts about Jadeja batting at number 4. He felt Jadeja looked unsure in that position and should not be promoted up the order. He said:
“See, Jadeja is someone who has always batted well from 15th to the 20th over. He has done that. He knows the patterns of batting those last 30 balls. So, suddenly when he comes up the order, he looked a little confused.
“He still wanted to get to that 15th over and then take on the bowler. So, he is not someone that would come on and take on the bowling right away. So, it is very, very important that you get players who can do that.
“So, Brevis is coming to the side now. Maybe he can get in there. And also, Dube. Dube, strangely, has done the same thing in the last game. Maybe he could have gone a little earlier in terms of big hitting. So, I think it’s just a little mindset shift that they need to get in.”
Aaron Finch agreed with Rayudu’s view and added:
“Yeah, I think that it’s probably the wrong move. Because, like Rayudu said, Jadeja is somebody who knows how to navigate the last few overs. He’s never been a player that has had a high strike rate in his first 10 balls.”
