IPL 2026: The clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB) and Gujarat Titans ended in disappointment for the home side, but the result wasn’t the only talking point. A contentious moment involving Jason Holder quickly took center stage, as his catch to dismiss Rajat Patidar sparked heated debate. The decision didn’t sit well with the Bengaluru camp, who were visibly frustrated with the third umpire’s call. Virat Kohli, in particular, was seen expressing his anger, even engaging in a discussion with an official near the boundary line.
Later, addressing the media, experienced seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar weighed in on the incident. He indicated that from the team’s perspective, there was a feeling that the ball may have made contact with the ground during the catch.
Bhuvneshwar on Catch Controversy
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, currently leading the charts in Indian Premier League 2026, said the visuals on the big screen suggested to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru players that the ball had brushed the ground. According to him, the team’s only concern was that the third umpire should have checked additional angles before arriving at a final call.
Virat anger over Catch
“I wasn’t right there at the moment, but from what I could make out on the screen, it looked like the ball had touched the turf. I’m not sure what communication happened with the umpire or how it fits within the rules, so I can’t comment on that. But yes, we felt more replays should have been reviewed,” he said after the game.It hasn’t often been the case this season that Bengaluru’s batting has misfired, yet despite a steady start from Virat Kohli, the side was bowled out for 155. Gujarat Titans had little trouble chasing it down, getting past the target with more than four overs remaining.
Where RCB lost the match
Asked to pinpoint what went wrong, Bhuvneshwar played it down, crediting the opposition instead. He felt it was simply one of those days where the Titans executed better.“I wouldn’t say something specifically went wrong. They just played better cricket. Some days go your way, some don’t. We lost the toss and had to set a target. We put in the effort with both bat and ball, but it didn’t come off,” he explained.

He also pointed out that consistency across every game in a long tournament isn’t realistic. “You can’t expect to tick every box in all 14 matches. Our batting unit has done well so far, we’ve put up big totals earlier. This time we fell short, and that’s part of the game. It’s about backing each other. There are days when bowlers concede plenty and the batters bail them out. Today, with a low total, it was on us as bowlers to try and make a match of it,” he added.
