Real Madrid may not be closing the door on Toni Kroos after all. A report from Diario AS claims the club has started weighing up the idea of bringing him back, not as a player, but in a role within the club’s structure. For now, it’s just internal discussion there hasn’t been any formal move or offer put forward.
Kroos’ story with Real Madrid is already complete in one sense. He arrived in the summer of 2014 from Bayern Munich, shortly after helping Germany win the World Cup. At the time, the transfer fee around €25 million felt surprisingly low for a player of his quality. Over time, that deal only looked better.
From the moment he settled in Madrid, Toni Kroos played with a calmness that stood out. He wasn’t the loudest name on the pitch, but everything seemed to flow through him. Alongside Luka Modrić and Casemiro, he became part of a midfield unit that defined an era of success for the club.
A legendary Madrid career for Toni Kroos
Over the course of his time in Spain, Kroos made more than 450 appearances in all competitions. The trophy list speaks for itself five Champions League titles (2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2024), four La Liga titles, and a collect on of other honours including the Copa del Rey, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Yet numbers alone don’t fully capture his impact. Kroos built his reputation on control rarely giving the ball away, always making the right choice, and setting the rhythm of matches almost effortlessly. He wasn’t flashy, but he didn’t need to be. His consistency became his trademark.
In May 2024, Kroos made the decision to retire, confirming that the 2023–24 season would be his last. He walked away on his own terms, still performing at the top level and after adding another Champions League title to his collection. His final appearance came during UEFA Euro 2024 with Germany, bringing an end to a career that had spanned the very top of the game for more than a decade.
Now, with Real Madrid quietly exploring the idea of bringing him back in an off-field role, the possibility feels more like a continuation than a comeback. Nothing is official yet, but it underlines how highly the club still values his understanding of the game.
