Records Galore: SRH – RCB clash ends up in a run-fest

At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad upset Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the most thrilling Indian Premier League match ever. The final score of the match, 549 runs, was the highest ever in a Twenty20 match as SRH defeated RCB by 25 runs. The batters had a fantasy pitch that was manufactured just for them, and they displayed their skill. When SRH faced the Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, they broke their own record thanks to a century from Travis Head in the first innings. In the first innings, the visitors amassed 287 runs, while the hosts, led by Dinesh Karthik, could only muster a mere 25 runs. The Mumbai Indians’ record for the highest second-inning score was likewise shattered by RCB’s 262. Here are the several records that were broken during the game.

Bowlers smashed around the park

The bowlers’ dislike of going to the Chinnaswamy stadium is hardly surprising. Bowlers of a significantly higher calibre have struck sixes. More than fifty runs were given up by four of the RCB bowlers. Four bowlers were hammered all over the park: Yash Dayal (51), Lockie Ferguson (52) Reece Topley (68), and Vijaykumar Vyshak (64). In a T20 match, this was the first time that four bowlers gave up more than 50 runs in one innings. There have never been any cases in the IPL where two bowlers gave up more than 50 runs in the same innings.

RCB’s bowling woes continue

As of right now, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have given up the most points in the competition’s history—13 tons—of any team. They overcame the Mumbai Indians, who have conceded 12 tons.

Most sixes in an innings

The Sunrisers Hyderabad batting lineup hit the most sixes in an IPL innings while wreaking havoc on the RCB spinners. They broke the RCB record of 21 sixes against the Pune Warriors India by smashing 22 sixes. Heinrich Klaasen hit seven sixes, and Head smashed eight. Abdul Samad struck three sixes down the order, while Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram each hammered two.

Most 50-plus partnerships in a T20 match

It was only the second occasion an IPL team had four partnerships totaling more than fifty. Abhishek and Head had a century stand together. Heinrich Klaasen was promoted up the batting order and walked into bat following Abhishek’s wicket. Head and Klaasen put up 57 runs together before the centurion was out. Aiden Markram and Klaasen struck a brilliant half-century partnership for the third wicket. Abdul Samad enjoyed another half-century partnership and demonstrated his ability to hit hard with a 37-run 10-ball knock.

It was only the second occasion in the IPL’s history since the competition’s inaugural match. Against RCB in Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders destroyed four half-century stands.

4th fastest 100 in IPL

Of all the SRH players, Travis Head scored the fastest century. In a game against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017, the left-handed Australian opener broke David Warner’s record by reaching the triple-figure milestone in just 39 balls. In the tournament’s history, he also owns the record for the fourth-fastest century.

The first team with more than one 250-plus score

Currently, the only team in the IPL with repeated scores of 250 or more is Sunrisers Hyderabad. Surrey has the highest 250-plus score in T20 cricket, with three totals, aside from the IPL teams. Somerset, Yorkshire and the Czech Republic all have two scores of 250 or higher. 

Third-fastest to 200

When Sunrisers Hyderabad hit 200 runs in 14.6 overs, they became the third team in the IPL to do so fastest. When playing the Mumbai Indians earlier in the season, SRH amassed 200 runs in 14.1 overs. The fastest team to reach 200 runs is the Royal Challenge Bangalore (RCB), who did so in 14.1 overs in a 15-over match against the Punjab Kings in Bengaluru in 2016.
