Rehan Ahmed, an all-rounder for England, is officially a part of Birmingham Phoenix, transferring from Trent Rockets. This is his first acquisition for Phoenix during their new ownership structure. The transfer happened before The Hundred taking place in 2026. Ahmed is only 21 years old.

Move From Trent Rockets After Impressive 2025 Campaign

Rehan Ahmed moves from Trent Rockets, who were runners-up in the 2025 edition of the event. In that tournament, he had a considerable effect with the bat and ball, as he picked 12 wickets and also scored more than 180 runs, adding more credence to his reputation of being one of a kind.

Notable Performances across Genres

Rehan Ahmed has impressed everyone with his deceptive leg spin and fear-less batting approach. He has been a crucial part of Leicestershire’s title-winning side for the County Championship Division Two title and has taken 23 wickets at an average of 19. His batting display has also impressed everyone, and his batting average of 50.67 has included five tons. This displays his maturity as a cricketer.

A New Era for Birmingham Phoenix

The 2026 season of The Hundred marks a new era, with teams permitted to retain and directly sign a maximum of four players prior to the auction, which is set to take place in March. Rehan Ahmed becomes the first player signed by Phoenix performance director James Thomas and newly appointed men’s head coach Shane Bond.

Rehan Ahmed on Playing for Birmingham Phoenix

“I am thrilled, and I think the vision the Phoenix management have is definitely one of the main reasons why I wanted to play there,” said Rehan Ahmed, expressing his happiness. The Iraq-born cricketer also mentioned the ambitions of the team, along with playing at Edgbaston, as reasons why he is eager to be part of such a team competing for trophies in The Hundred.

Phoenix Management Applaud Signing

James Thomas reflected Rehan Ahmed as an “exact fit for the long-term vision of Birmingham Phoenix”. James highlighted Rehan’s capability to affect matches with the ball as well as with the bat and stated, “In one respect, Rehan’s youthful exuberance is an asset because he’s already proven to be one of the best-rated players in English cricket.”

Recent Injury and Return to Competitive Action

Last month, Rehan Ahmed had returned prematurely from the England Lions tour in Australia due to a leg muscle strain. This occurred during the warm-up fixture prior to the first Test in the Ashes series in Australia. However, he has since made a full recovery and is currently in Australia with the Hobart Hurricanes for the Big Bash Cricket Competition.

BBL Appearance and Ashes Context

Rehan Ahmed made his BBL debut for the Hobart Hurricanes in their first match, where he featured with a spell and a bat in a four-wicket victory over the Sydney Thunder. Before his injury, there were talks of him extending his stay in the England senior team after the conclusion of the Lions series, but he was not picked in the squad as the second spinner, with Will Jacks instead making the cut.

England Career So Far

Usuarios Rehan Ahmed has represented England in 23 international matches so far, including five Tests. It is still early on in his career, but his performances show that he is going to be an integral part of England’s future.
