In a very sad piece of news for Indian cricket fans, Rinku Singh’s Father has been reported to have passed away after a long battle with cancer. This is a very tragic moment for the star Indian batter and his family, especially when the Indian team is in the middle of their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

Rinku Singh’s Father Was Battling Cancer

As reported, Rinku Singh’s Father, Khanchand Singh, has been ill for the past few weeks. He was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he was being treated for cancer. His health had deteriorated in the past few days, and he was put on life support before he passed away.

Although there has been no official word from the BCCI or Rinku Singh himself, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has taken to social media to offer his condolences to the family.

Rinku Singh Misses Training Amid Family Emergency

The sad news has also affected Rinku Singh’s availability in the Indian team. Although he was with the team during India’s emphatic 72-run win over Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, he had flown back earlier to be with his ailing father.

Rinku had missed a training session and had not been with the team when they first left for Chennai. He finally rejoined the team on the eve of the match against Zimbabwe after spending time with his family during the medical emergency.

Selection Update: Strategic Decision Against Zimbabwe

India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak gave an update on Rinku’s return to Chennai. But even after rejoining the team, Rinku was not picked in the playing XI for the match against Zimbabwe.

Sanju Samson was chosen instead, in a move that was termed as a strategic one. This was done to ensure that India’s batting lineup, which already had too many left-handers, was not dominated by them. Samson opened the innings along with Abhishek Sharma, and the move paid off as India scored their highest-ever T20 World Cup total.

Rinku Singh Appears as Substitute Fielder

Despite not being included in the playing XI, Rinku Singh was still a part of the action in the match. He was introduced as a substitute fielder in the second innings of the match. In a crucial moment in the powerplay, Rinku dropped Zimbabwe batter Tadiwanashe Marumani off Varun Chakaravarthy’s delivery.

However, despite all the action on the field, the limelight is still on the personal tragedy that Rinku Singh’s Father is going through, which has overshadowed India’s ICC T20 World Cup campaign.

Tough Time for Rinku Singh and Family

There is no doubt that this is a very tough time for Rinku Singh, who has been an important part of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. Losing a parent is a loss that cannot be replaced, and the entire cricketing world has come out in support of him.
