When Rohit Sharma reaches the age of 38, he will be the fourth Indian cricketer to join an elite group of three Indians who have scored at least 20000 runs in all formats of international cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid are the other three players who belong to this club. Rohit Sharma needs only 41 more runs to achieve this milestone. He is likely to reach this feat in the second ODI of the series against South Africa at Raipur on Wednesday.
A Career Built on Consistency and Dominance
Rohit Sharma has played a huge role in helping India become a successful international cricket nation over the last 10 years due to his ability to hit the ball hard from the opening position in limited-overs cricket. Through his ability to score so many runs (19,959) across an astounding 503 matches at an excellent batting average of 42.46, he has established a reputation as one of India’s top cricketers.
Recent Form Boosts Momentum
In the opening ODI against South Africa, Rohit passed Shahid Afridi’s record for most sixes in the history of ODIs – further proving he can hit bowlers like nobody else! With 20,000 runs looming over him, the captain of India has solidified himself as one of the most intimidating batsmen during the modern era.
The Elite Indian 20,000-Run Club
Upon reaching the milestone, Rohit will join three others as being Indian batters that have scored over 20,000 international runs.
Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs scored (34357) in cricket and is regarded as the best batsman of all time by many people.
Virat Kohli holds the record for fastest player to achieve 20,000 runs in total in global ICC sanctioned matches, and has made a total of 27808 runs at this point in time.
Rahul Dravid made 24,064 runs throughout his incredible career as the “Wall”. He was technically very sound, a patient player, and could be relied upon without fail.
As Rohit Sharma now tries to pass the 20,000 mark, it is another step to cement his own legacy and a place among the greatest batsmen in Indian cricket history.
