For Rohit Sharma, the India vs Australia ODI series was more than just another competition, it was a comeback story. After being away from international cricket for over seven months, many had begun questioning his form and place in the team. Adding to the pressure, he had also been replaced as India’s ODI captain right before the series began. But Rohit Sharma did what he does best, he answered his critics with the bat.
By the end of the three-match series, Rohit Sharma had scored an impressive 202 runs, earning him the ‘Player of the Series’ title. But that wasn’t the only recognition he received. After the final ODI, the Indian team management surprised him with another honor – the ‘Impact Player of the Series’ award.
Rohit Sharma received a special recognition from the Team
Adrian Le Roux, India’s strength and conditioning coach, presented the award and spoke highly of Rohit Sharma’s leadership and influence.
“It’s a great honour to give this ‘Impact Player of the Series’ award to someone special. I think we all agree – a leader of men, a very experienced player, Rohit,” Adrian Le Roux said.
Praise from Gautam Gambhir
Rohit’s stellar form also caught the attention of former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who praised not only Rohit but also Virat Kohli and new skipper Shubman Gill for their key contributions in the series.
“With the bat, I thought the partnership between Shubman and Rohit was very, very important, where we were 60 for no loss. And then, the partnership between Rohit and Virat was again outstanding, very clinical as well. And a special mention to Rohit – another hundred, outstanding. The most important thing was that you finished it off, and Virat as well,” Gambhir said in his post-match speech.
He also credited India’s bowlers for their remarkable effort in turning the match around after a strong start by Australia.
“I thought we did everything; we ticked all the boxes. Especially to start with, I thought the bowlers were outstanding. The kind of start Australia had – 63 for no loss after 10 overs – and from there to restricting them to 237 was an outstanding effort. And a special mention to Harshit. Harshit, that was an outstanding spell.”
Rohit Sharma’s Redemption Story
This series was a testament to Rohit Sharma’s grit and class. It wasn’t just about runs – it was about character. From struggling with a single-digit score in Perth to grinding out a patient 73 off 97 balls in Adelaide, Rohit Sharma showed discipline and adaptability. Then, in the final match at Sydney, he turned back the clock with a stunning 121* off 125 balls, proving that the “Hitman” still had plenty left in the tank.
Across those three matches, Rohit totaled 202 runs and reminded everyone why he’s considered one of the finest in modern cricket. More importantly, his performances sent a clear message – he’s not done yet. With his eyes set firmly on the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, Rohit looks ready to chase new milestones, both in fitness and in cricket.
It was a series that didn’t just showcase runs and records, but the quiet determination of a true leader – one who continues to inspire his teammates and fans alike.
