Ronaldo has been linked with a switch away from Manchester United this summer after telling the club that he wants to go, and Atletico Madrid has been mentioned as a possible destination, despite the Spanish club’s president declaring that they would not sign him.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, indicated that he will be back in the team for this weekend’s match against Rayo Vallecano.
Why was Ronaldo left out of the Manchester United squad?
Ronaldo has told United executives that he wants to leave this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
The 37-year-old has been missing from United’s pre-season training due to a family matter, which the club has excused him from.
This week, the former Real Madrid player came to United’s training field with his agent, Jorge Mendes, to discuss his position.
United have not provided an update on why Ronaldo is still missing from the squad, and Ten Hag recently stated that he does not know when the star striker will rejoin the rest of the club.
United have stated that they would not let Ronaldo go this summer, and Ten Hag has indicated that he may end up staying longer.
“Yes (he may stay beyond this season), but to be honest, I signed here for three years, but football is also a short-term game.” We have to win right now. So I don’t plan that far ahead,” he explained.

Ronaldo did provide some confidence that he will be returning soon, stating on Instagram that he expects to play Rayo on Sunday.
“On Sunday, the king plays,” the celebrity said in response to a post questioning his future.
