SA vs SL Test Series: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the South African cricket team in away conditions. Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the Sri Lankan cricket team in the upcoming series, which is a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 cycle.

Current Form of South Africa and Sri Lanka Ahead OF SA vs SL Series

Both Sri Lanka and South Africa will be looking forward to winning in the series in order to boost their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship 2025 Final. The Test series between Sri Lanka and South African is scheduled to kickstart from November 27th at Kingsmead. The second match of the series will be played at St. George’s Oval in Port Elizabeth, starting on December 5.

Both the teams are entering the upcoming series on a winning note. While South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 2-0 in their series, on the other hand, Sri Lanka secured a 2-0 clean sweep against New Zealand at home. The South African cricket team is currently sitting in the fifth place in the ongoing WTC points table with the PCT of 54.17 and the Sri Lankan cricket team is currently sitting at the third position with the PCT of 55.56.

Talking about the squad announced by the Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday, the selectors have decided to release Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, and Asitha Fernando, giving them time to recover and prepare for the Test series.

The selectors have chosen a strong batting lineup, including Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and Sadeera Samarawickrama.

All-rounders Dhananjaya de Silva and Angelo Mathews add depth to the team. Sri Lanka’s pace attack features Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, and Milan Rathnayake, while Prabath Jayasuriya and Nishan Peiris take charge of the spin department.
