Sachin Tendulkar has officially cleared the air about rumours linking him to the role of BCCI President. The legendary cricketer stated SRT Sports Management Private Limited, calling the reports “untrue propaganda” and urging everyone not to believe them.
The buzz started after Roger Binny had to step down as BCCI President upon turning 70, as per the board’s rules. Since then, vice-president Rajeev Shukla has been looking after the board’s affairs until a new president is chosen.

Tendulkar’s official statement
With speculations flying around that Sachin Tendulkar could step into fill the vacant post, the former India star strongly denied the claims. The official statement from SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd read:
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations.”
Why was Sachin Tendulkar’s name linked to the role?
Every three years, the BCCI’s 37-member body elects new office bearers, including the president, for a term of three years. In recent years, the trend has shifted toward appointing former cricketers to top posts, with Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny both serving terms.
With Binny’s tenure ending and the BCCI Annual General Meeting set for September 28, chatter on social media suggested that Tendulkar could be the board’s next choice. However, most BCCI members themselves were unaware of any such move, and no concrete developments backed up the rumours.
Tendulkar has stayed away from cricket administration
While Sachin Tendulkar has given India 24 unforgettable years on the field, he has shown little interest in coaching or administrative roles since retiring. He has also stayed away from franchise cricket responsibilities, apart from being a symbolic figure for the Mumbai Indians.
Though he has taken part in charity matches and occasionally shared his insights as a commentator, Tendulkar has largely kept his distance from competitive or administrative cricket. All signs suggest he intends to stick to that decision going forward.
