Tennis star Sania Mirza of India has withdrawn from the upcoming US Open due to an injury, she announced on Instagram. “Hello everyone, just a quick update. I’m afraid I have some bad news. I hurt my forearm/elbow playing in Canada two weeks ago and didn’t realise how bad it was until I got my scans yesterday, and unfortunately, I have torn a small portion of my tendon “Mirza posted a message on Instagram.
“I’ll be out for several weeks and have withdrawn from the US Open. This isn’t ideal, and the timing is terrible, and it will change some of my retirement plans, but I’ll keep you updated “She continued.
Mirza, a former world number one in women’s doubles, has won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open in women’s doubles once each. She also won the mixed doubles event at the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open.
She also lost in the semi-finals of mixed doubles at the 2016 Olympic Games.
“I’m experiencing the same emotions. I think it came as a bit of a surprise to everyone, and I later admitted that I should not have announced it (about retiring at the end of this season) so soon and should have done so closer to the end of the year because everyone got really emotional “Sania informed the press.
“I received so many messages, and tennis will always be a big part of my life. I am thankful for the memories and accomplishments I have had. I intend to finish by the end of the year, but I’m all in, and it’s going to be a long year “Sania stated.
