Sanju Samson Reveals Loss Reason: Following Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) 58-run defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 25 of the IPL 2025, captain Sanju Samson was disappointed with his team’s performance. With a good batting pitch and promising beginning, RR could not chase a challenging target of 218 runs and collapsed under pressure in front of the home audience at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

In the post-match interview, Sanju Samson opened up on where they lost, attributing two prime reasons: RR’s woeful death bowling and losing momentum at vital moments. He identified his dismissal in the 13th over as the game-changer in particular.

“About 15-20 runs short in the bowling. Every time we wanted to take the momentum ahead we lost wickets. When Hetmyer and I were batting it was still chaseable, but my dismissal turned the game,” said Samson.

He added further that even though the surface was good to bat, Rajasthan did not implement their chase perfectly and needed to analyze their death-over strategies in the team meeting.

GT’s Dominant First Innings Set the Tone

Shubman Gill-captained Gujarat Titans mounted an imposing 217/6 with the benefit mostly of an incredible innings from Sai Sudharsan, who scored 82 runs in 53 deliveries and got plenty of excellent assistance from some other match-winning cameos:

– Shahrukh Khan (36 off 18)

– Rahul Tewatia (24 off 10)

– Jos Buttler (36 off 20)

Their strong stroke plans at the end were responsible for GT scoring extra runs, which Sanju Samson conceded were key to RR’s loss.

RR’s Unstable Chase Was Short on Partnerships

Chasing 218, Rajasthan Royals required a good platform—but GT’s bowlers continued to disrupt partnerships at crucial moments.

– Sanju Samson scored a battling 41 off 28
– Shimron Hetmyer scored RR’s highest of 52 off 33

But the needed run rate continued to rise, and following Samson’s dismissal in the 13th over by Prasidh Krishna, RR never regained its footing. No stand was able to stabilize the chase, enabling Gujarat to tighten the noose in the middle and death overs.

Sanju Samson on Conditions and Strategy

Looking back at the pitch and strategy, Samson admitted that the surface was good for chasing, but poor execution cost them.

“This was a good wicket. We want to be a side that respects conditions and wins matches while chasing,” he added, also hinting that RR would look into whether batting first may have been a preferable choice.

Next Fixture: RR vs RCB at Home

Rajasthan Royals will now play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their next match (Match 28 of IPL 2025) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The team will be hoping to come back strong after this loss.

Final Match Summary: RR vs GT – IPL 2025

Rajasthan Royals: 159 all out (Hetmyer 52, Samson 41)

After Sanju Samson’s revelations about where they lost momentum, it is clear that both death bowling and partnerships while chasing are still areas of concern. In the meantime, GT is maintaining its stellar start to IPL 2025, do you believe it is their fourth straight win? As the competition heats up teams like RR will need to recover quickly to stay afloat in playoff contention.
