Former world champion PV Sindhu was seeded 17th and faced a tough second-round battle against China’s Olympic gold medallist Chen Yufei. Despite being in her top form, she struggled to build her momentum in the opening game, losing the first set by 9-21. She made a comeback in the second round, leading at 19-12, but eventually lost in the third round by 16-21, marking her seventh defeat in 13 meetings with the Chinese star.

HS Prannoy, on the other hand, was also bowed out in the pre-quarterfinals. India was already suffering from the absence of Lakshya Sen, who withdrew from the tournament early due to injuries, and Prannoy’s exit marked another shocking elimination from the Singapore Open 2025.

Amid these disappointments, the Indian men’s doubles duo, Satwik-Chirag, delivered an outstanding performance to keep the nation’s hope alive. Returning to competition after a two-month injury layoff, the duo faced Indonesia’s seventh-seeded Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi in a high-stakes round of 16 clash.

The match was a true example of grit and composure. Satwik-Chirag dropped the first game with 19-21, showcasing some errors, however, they returned with a tightened defence and aggression to claim the next two games with 21-16 and 21-19.

Their victory not only booked their spots in the quarterfinals but also cemented their positions as one of the most formidable duos in badminton. They will now face a strong battle against Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, the world number 2 pair at the Singapore Open.
