Saudi Arabia has unveiled a bold vision for the 2034 FIFA World Cup promising to build 11 new stadiums including a mind blogging structure suspended 350 meter above ground. The centerpiece of this ambitious plan is the Neom Stadium a futuristic marvel nestled within the car free city of The Line.

Imagine a football pitch floating among the clouds, surrounded by breathtaking vistas. That’s the experience Saudi Arabia aims to offer. The stadium, powered entirely by renewable energy, promises to be a technological and architectural wonder. Fans will glide around the area in autonomous electric vehicles, adding to the futuristic allure.

However, this ambitious project is not without its critics. Reports of forced displacement and even lethal force used against civilians to clear land for The Line have cast a shadow over the project. Concerns about payment reliability have led some major construction firms to pull out of the region.

Beyond the controversial Neom project, Saudi Arabia plans to build the 92,760-capacity King Salman International Stadium, designed to blend seamlessly with the desert environment. This stadium will host the World Cup final and become the country’s national stadium.

With no other competitors for the 2034 World Cup, Saudi Arabia is all but guaranteed to host the tournament. The event will be spread across five cities, with a mix of newly constructed and refurbished stadiums.

As the world watches, the question remains: Will Saudi Arabia deliver on its promise of a futuristic football spectacle, or will the challenges and controversies overshadow its ambitions?
