SBC Summit 2025 is turning the spotlight on one of the most tightly regulated and commercially important regions in the world: Western Europe. A brand-new track called Global Markets, Western Europe will launch on Wednesday, 17 September at Lisbon’s Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL).
Spotlight on Western Europe at SBC Summit 2025
This special track will explore how major gaming operators are handling rising compliance demands, changing player habits, and growing global competition. It’s part of the summit’s wider Global Markets program and is designed to help attendees succeed in strict regulatory environments like Italy, the Nordics, the Netherlands, and Portugal.
Whether you’re looking to grow your presence or keep your edge in existing markets, the sessions will give you real-world insights and tools to stay compliant, attract players, and keep innovating. Expect discussions on new licensing rules, consumer protection changes, and the big challenges operators are facing today.
Rasmus Sojmark, CEO and Founder of SBC, said: “Western Europe has always led the way in gambling regulation, but the rules keep changing. Operators need strong relationships with regulators, fresh thinking around innovation, and smart ways to keep customers engaged. This track is all about helping them do just that.”
What to Expect from the Track
The first session, European Leaders Panel: Old World, New Way Forward, brings together top names in the industry to talk about how big brands are adjusting to tougher rules and finding new ways to keep players loyal. Speakers include Pascal Chaffard (FDJ), Axel Hefer (Tipico), Vlad Kaltenieks (BoyleSports), Mattias Wedar (LeoVegas), with Martin Collins (Soft2bet) moderating.
Then, the focus will shift to Italy with Italy’s New Online Gambling Regime: A Game-Changer for the Industry. Experts like Fabio A. Bufalini (Stake), Marco Castaldo (Microgame), Will Shuckburgh (eCogra), Nicola Tani (Agipro), Stefano Tino (Betsson), and Marco Tiso (Sisal) will look at how stricter rules, higher licensing fees, and new player protections are reshaping the Italian market and what operators can do to keep up.
In Portugal: Smooth Sailing or Danger Ahead?, industry leaders including Tiago Bessa (Vieira de Almeida), Tomas Goncalves (Apostas Sociais), Americo Loureiro (Solverde), Rui Magalhães (Estoril Sol Digital), Bernardo Neves (APAJO), and Tiago Pereira (LeBull.pt) will discuss the ups and downs of Portugal’s iGaming scene. With online casino activity on the rise and sports betting slowing down, the session will explore if more regulation is on the horizon.
Other must-see panels include Over the Finnish Line, looking at Finland’s plan to open up its gambling market to private companies, and Dutch Courage, which will cover the Netherlands’ potential new rules like raising the age for online slots and setting lower deposit limits.
The Global Markets – Western Europe focused track is part of the wider series at SBC Summit 2025, which runs from 16 to 18 September. Other regions in the spotlight include Global Markets – Latin America and Brazil, and Global Markets – North America. Each track offers tailored insights to help companies grow and enter new markets.
