Scottie Scheffler claimed a record-breaking victory with a historic performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The tournament featured a massive prize pool of $9.9 million and attracted top players. From the opening round, Scheffler set the pace with a beautiful 10-under 61 shot, never giving up the lead, and became the first player since Tom Watson to achieve this feat at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler finished at an astonishing 31-under par 253, tying the all-time PAG tour record for the lowest 72-hole score, a mark only reached by Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg. The victory is specifically meaningful for Scottie Scheffler since he made his debut 11 years ago in the same tournament and became the first Texan since Scott Verplank in 2007 to win the tournament. The win marks his 14th career title and his first in the 2025 season.
Scottie Scheffler On His Win
He shared his excitement on winning the title and said, “I grew up coming to watch it. This was my first start on the PGA Tour when I was in high school. The girl I was dating at the time is now my wife. My family was all able to be here, and it was just really, really special memories, and I think at times it all comes crashing down to me at once. We have a lot of great memories as kids coming to watch this tournament. I just dreamed to be able to play in it, and it’s more of a dream to be able to win it.”
Erik van Rooyen finished eight shots behind Scottie Scheffler at 23-under par and claimed the second position, while the third place was claimed by Sam Stevens.
