India clinched the ISTAF Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 title after beating Japan 2-1 in the final. Playing before the home crowd in Patna, Bihar, the Indian regu team won its first ever gold medal in the Sepak Takraw World Cup history.
The 2025 ISTAF World Cup was the fifth edition of the ISTAF World Cup, held from 20 to 25 March 2025 at the Patliputra Indoor Stadium. Twenty-one countries participated in the tournament
The hosts did not have the best of starts in the summit clash, losing the first game 11-15. However, they bounced back to win the second 15-11 and force a decider. The final set was intens, with both sides matching each other shot for shot. India eventually got the better of Japan in 17-14 in a tense battle to be crowned champions.
Earlier in the day, India routed Iran 2-0 in the semi-finals to book their spot in the gold medal match. Iran and Singapore jointly got the bronze medal in the men’s regular category.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s regu team bagged a bronze medal after losing 0-2 to Vietnam in their semi-final clash. The women’s team of Thailand clinched the gold, whereas Vietnam conceded the silver medal in the final match.
The Indian men’s and women’s teams showed improvement in comparison to the previous World Cup. They bagged a total of seven medals with respect to five in the last Sepak Takraw World Cup.
On the other hand, Myanmar secured one gold, two silvers and one bronze medal at the 2025 ISTAF Sepak Takraw World Cup. The country participated in five events, claiming one gold in the women’s double event, two silvers in the men’s double event and mixed quadrant event, and one bronze in the men’s quadrant event, Min Min Htike.
