Shardul Thakur replaces Axar Patel

Shardul Thakur will replace Axar Patel in the Indian World Cup T20 squad. Subsequently, the medium-pacer will join the 15 man squad for the World Cup. Meanwhile, Axar Patel has been named on the stand-by player list for the tournament.

BCCI had 5 more days to revise the squad list. Subsequently, The Indian cricketing body has now made a change to the squad.

BCCI in a statement has said that,

The All-India Senior Selection Committee after a discussion with the team management has added Shardul Thakur to the main squad. All-rounder Axar Patel, who was part of the 15-member squad will now be on the list of stand-by players.

The Stand-by player list consists of Shreyas Iyer(Batsman), Deepak Chahar(Bowler), and Axar Patel(All-Rounder).

Meanwhile, BCCI has also announced a list of players who will assist the squad with preparations.

Avesh Khan, Umran Malik, Harshal Patel, Lukman Meriwala, Venkatesh Iyer, Karn Sharma, Shahbaz Ahmed, and K. Gowtham will assist the main squad in their preparations.

Shardul Thakur’s IPL exploits

Shardul Thakur has had a great campaign in the ongoing IPL edition. The medium-pacer has picked 18 wickets in 15 matches. Meanwhile, Axar Patel has also had a wonderful outing with the ball. The left-arm spinner has picked 15 wickets in 11 matches.

Shardul Thakur is the fifth pace option the Indian squad presents. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are already in the squad. Similarly, the spin department also looks pretty stacked up. Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy are all present in the squad.

Meanwhile, the technical reason behind the replacement has not been disclosed as of now.
