Indian cricket team defeated West Indies in the first ODI which was played on Friday, 22nd July at Queen’s Park Oval cricket ground. It was one of the thrilling ODI games as it ended on a last ball. The last-ball thriller ended up in India’s favour as they defeated West Indies by 3 runs. Four runs were required from the last ball and Mohammad Siraj bowled well to make India lead the series by 1-0.

In this game, Indian opening batters Shubman Gill and skipper Shikhar Dhawan made a new record. Shubman Gill was opening for the first time in ODIs and that also with Shikhar. They both made half-centuries in this game and they have a 100-run stand in their first-ever game as opening partners. Shubman Gill made 64 runs whereas Shikhar Dhawan was named player of the match for his wonderful 97 runs innings.

They gave an amazing start to the Indian cricket team after the visitors lost the toss. They (Shikhar Dhawan & Shubman Gill) had a opening partnership of 119 runs in this first ODI. This became the third highest opening partnership by India in West Indies. The first and second highest includes Shikhar-Ajinkya (Rahane) and Shikhar-Rohit respectively.
