ENG vs IND 2025: England’s young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after breaking a finger on his left hand.

ENG vs IND 2025: Shoaib Bashir Injured While Fielding at Lord’s

The 21-year-old picked up the injury during the third day of the Lord’s Test while trying to take a return catch off his own bowling. The moment came in the 78th over of India’s first innings as he tried to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja. Unfortunately, the ball struck his hand awkwardly, and Shoaib Bashir had to leave the field for treatment.

He didn’t return to the field for the rest of the day, with Joe Root stepping in to bowl 10.1 overs in his absence.

The injury is a big blow for England, especially with Bashir showing promising form in the series.

England Forced to Adjust as Shoaib Bashir Exits Field

Shoaib Bashir did come out to bat in England’s second innings, sticking to his usual No. 11 spot. He managed just two runs off nine balls before being dismissed by Washington Sundar. On Day 5, he stayed off the field for most of the time but was called in to bowl late in the day when India’s tail was giving England trouble.

Clearly in pain, Shoaib Bashir struggled while fielding and had his left hand heavily bandaged. Despite the injury, he took the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj, ending with tidy figures of 1/6 in 5.5 overs. Only Joe Root bowled fewer overs for England that day.

Shoaib Bashir has been England’s go-to spinner recently, keeping out Jack Leach. But with his injury, Leach might return for the final two Tests. Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson, and Tom Hartley are also in the mix. England currently lead the series 2-1, with matches in Manchester and London still to come.
