Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer was recently spotted having some off-field fun, playing a friendly game of indoor cricket at his apartment with teammate Shashank Singh. The two were taking part in round two of a light-hearted “Super Over” challenge, with Iyer tasked with surviving six balls from Shashank’s bowling.
The 2025 IPL season was one to remember for the Kings, as they reached the Playoffs and even made it to the final after an 11-year gap. Unfortunately, they fell just short, losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six runs in the title clash.
In the Instagram video, the banter between the two cricketers set the tone for the contest.
Shashank: “Yeh bhi out nahin hai?” (This is not out either?)
Shreyas: “Sirf appreciate kar, six hai yeh.” (Just appreciate, it’s a six.)
Shashank, with a smile, warned him: “Ab aayega short ball.” (The short ball is up next.)
In response, Iyer cheekily asked: “Woakes hai kya tu?” (Are you Woakes?) – a nod to England pacer Chris Woakes, who recently troubled Indian batters with his short deliveries during the five-match Test series.
The Punjab Kings’ Instagram post captured this fun moment, highlighting the strong bond between the two teammates off the field.

Away from the banter, Shreyas Iyer is reportedly on track to return to the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9. The “ignored” India star was the country’s top scorer in their Champions Trophy triumph, scoring 243 runs in five matches.
While Iyer has represented India across all formats, he currently features only in ODIs. But selectors are keen to bring him back in the middle order for all formats.
“We need Iyer’s class and experience in the middle order in all formats. It’s something which we missed in England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The selectors are aware that Iyer is an excellent player of spin bowling, which will be crucial in a home season that involves four Tests – two each against West Indies and South Africa,” sources told TOI.
