Indian youngster Shreyas Iyer is looking match-fit as he cleared by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will return to competitive cricket, as the IPL resumes in the UAE from September 19.

Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals batsman will re-join the team in the second half of the IPL after he missed the first half due to an injury. In his absence, Rishabh Pant has captained the Delhi Capitals side during the last edition. As the last edition was halted after multiple covid-19 cases in various team’s bio-bubble environments.

Shreyas Iyer, who is 26 years old played 22 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals, sustained a shoulder injury during the ODI against England in Pune on March 23. Hence, he had to undergo surgery in the United Kingdom.

After he completed an intense rehabilitation program and proved his fitness during his weeklong stay at the NCA. It is understood that its medical team has declared fit to return to competitive cricket.

“Yes, NCA has issued a fit certificate to Shreyas. He stayed in Bengaluru at NCA for a week and his final assessment has happened a few days back. Based on all medical and physical parameters, he is now ready to play matches.”

“This couldn’t have happened at a better time with India’s T20I World Cup campaign in two months time”, a senior BCCI source told PTI.

As per BCCI protocol, the Delhi Capitals batsman Shreyas Iyer has done his rehab program at the NCA ground in the BKC complex. He has to undergo an intense fitness examination before being adjudged match fit by the competent authorities.

As India’s middle-order batsman making a comeback into international cricket has been given more options into the middle order for the Indian team. Now all eyes will be on Delhi Capitals management whether they will give the captaincy role back to Shreyas Iyer or they would retain Rishabh Pant.

There could be a possibility if Pant is not retained as a captain, the keeper-batsman may be in the auction pool in the next IPL edition and so his price as a player can raise in the next IPL.
